COCONUT TREE

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is found throughout the tropics, where it is interwoven into the lives of the local people by providing almost all the necessities of life—food, drink, oil, medicine, fiber, timber, thatch, mats, fuel, and domestic utensils.

Coconut is Multi-use, Multi-year (minimum 50 years) and one of the most productive green-machines nature has bestowed upon mankind.

WHY COCONUT?

According to a South Sea Proverb "He who plants a coconut tree, plants vessels and clothing, food and drink, a habitation for himself, and a heritage for his children."

Coconut is a benevolent tree, a nature’s gift to mankind, as it is a source of food, beverage, oilseed, fibers, timber and health products. Coconut is one of the world's most nourishing foods and because of its multi-use characteristics it is called the Tree of Life.

The coconut tree is highly versatile and provides raw material for products that are high in demand. Some of the uses include:

  • FRUIT KERNEL: Oil, Cream, Copra, Meat, Coco Water

  • FRUIT SHELL: Fuel, Biomass, Activated Carbon, Mulch, Charcoal

  • FRUIT FIBERS: Ropes, Mats, Geo-textile

  • FLOWERS: Honey, Sugar, Sap

  • LEAVES: Fronds (Biomass, Roofing, Architectural Use, Mulch)

  • TRUNK: Coco Lumber, Biomass

Coconut tree products, raw or processed, are high in demand throughout the world.

COCONUT PRODUCTS

MARKETS AND DEMAND

The greatest strength of Coconut is its multi-use ability and global acceptance of Coconut products across spectrum of industries.

COCONUT MARKET DEMAND DRIVERS

  • MULTI-USE CHARACTERISTICS

  • MANY PRIMARY & SECONDARY PRODUCTS

  • GLOBAL GROWTH IN POULATION

  • RISING INCOME LEVEL RESULTING HIGHEER CONSUMPTION

  • CHANGING LIFESTYLE TRENDSî RENEWED INTEREST IN HEALTH BENEFITS & SHIFT IN CONSUMER PREFERENCES

  • DWINDLING SUPPLY DUE TO TREE-AGING IN ASIA

  • ACTIVE RESEARCH & CONSUMER EDUCATION

AGRICULTURE PRODUCT DEMAND DRIVERS

  • The human population has increased by almost 400% in the past 100 years. The primary drivers underpinning current and future farmland returns are global economic growth, rising income level, and population growth, all of which ultimately dictate global demand for food, feed and fuel.

  • Increasing demand for agricultural commodities in the face of a finite stock of suitable productive land.

  • Climate change, deforestation, desertification and urbanization has reduced agriculture productivity in many countries.

  • Dietary shifts in emerging nations. As existing populations in developing economies become richer, they shift towards a higher protein, more resource intensive diet.

  • Healthy lifestyles in developed nations. More and more people are shifting to fresh, organic and healthy food which may be exotic and sourced from far away places.

  • High energy costs have helped renewed focus on the agriculture sector as many nations are marching ahead with plans to produce bio-energy: biodiesel, biomass and biofuels.

  • Land degradation, poor land management, exploitation, changing climates, erosion, flooding, expanding desert, soil salinity spread, wars and political conflicts, and dwindling fresh water reserves have considerably reduced agriculture productivity in many countries and investors are moving to countries conducive to agricultural activity.
